How to Protect Yourself during Flu Epidemic and Acute Respiratory Viral Infection

A healthy diet can not protect you from possible virus infections. But it can strengthen your body so that it will dispose with disease quickly and efficiently through generating antibodies. Doctors have known for a long time that people who eat well-balanced and vitamin-rich food suffer much less from illnesses and recover much faster. That’s why it’s a good idea to make a point of strengthening your immunity during flu epidemics and acute respiratory viral infections.

It is utterly unwise to get along on fast food, semi-prepared foods which are crammed with margarines, buns and sodas which further undermine the already disordered immune system. But you should be aiming at enhancing the body defenses!

The Right Diet during Flu Epidemic

  • The best way to enhance immunity is to eat foods rich in fresh natural vitamins and first of all larger doses of vitamin C. Oranges, lemons, pomeloes and other citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C. Apples, cranberries, pomegranates, persimmons, kiwi fruit are rich in many important vitamins including vitamin C. So it’s advisable to eat some of these fruits or drink their squeezed juices every day. Don’t forget about carrot, sauerkraut, broccoli, germinated wheat seeds and sweet pepper.
  • It is also salubrious to eat beef liver for it contains vitamin B12 and possesses blood-producing properties. Fish should always be in your daily menu. Fat fishes are especially healthy, because they are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids which strengthen the immune system considerably.
  • Fresh onion and garlic are healthy as a part of salads or other dishes. They are known for their anti-bacterial and antiviral properties and they can help put down illness without developing complications.
