Trans Fats Kill
Millions of people have heart attack every year caused by a high cholesterol level. Cholesterol blocks arteries and results in heart diseases. To keep the cholesterol level under control one has to change the lifestyle and follow a healthy diet.
In an article published in the British Medical Journal British doctors urge to prohibit the use of trans fats, also known as trans fat acids. Scientists say that a decrease of their use even by one per cent could save thousands of lives and prevent thousands of heart attacks every year.
Trans fats are chemically modified vegetable oils that prolong the shelf-life of different foods while having no nutritional value. Trans fats are found in industrially produced foodstuff – in cakes, cookies, chips, fast food, mayonnaise, ready-to-cook foods. Margarine, advertized as cholesterol-free diabetic product, is actually a dangerous trans fat that brings up the level of bad cholesterol in the blood and leads to metabolism disorder, heart rhythm disorder, excessive weight.
Note: Trans fats have already been prohibited in Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, New York and California.
