How to Store Green Tea
Everyone is aware of the beneficial properties of green tea. But not everyone knows that after the tea is stored for approximately 6 months on a shelf, its antioxidant content is reduced by 32%.
These antioxidants are known as catechins. They can reduce the risk of certain cancers, but they are sensitive to oxygen and light.
Unfortunately, tea, unlike wine, does not improve with age.
How to preserve the useful properties of tea
- Buy tea in sealed packages or cans rather than in a cellophane wrapper which can be penetrated by air and light.
- Keep tea bags in sealed opaque containers in a cool place.
- Green tea is more sensitive to heat than black tea. Therefore, place the sealed container with tea in the refrigerator to keep the leaves fresh and healthy as long as possible.
