How to Make Potato Vareniki
Vareniki is the Ukraine’s national dish that became popular in Russia and other countries as well. There is a similar dish in Italy which is called ravioli. To give the filling a richer taste we added sheep feta cheese. The vareniki came out fine.
Ingredients for Potato Vareniki
- 1.0 lb flour
- 0.42 pt water
- 1 teaspoonful salt
- an egg
- 3-4 potatoes
- 1 onion
- 0.2 lb sheep feta cheese
- 3-4 tablespoonfuls oil
Recipe for Potato Vareniki
- Pour water into a bowl, add one egg and salt. Putting in flour gradually, knead elastic non-sticky dough. Cover it with a cloth and let it come on for 40 minutes.
- Boil potatoes in jackets, peel and mash them. Fry finely chopped onion. Mix mashed potatoes, fried onion and grated feta cheese.
- After that strew some flour on the kitchen table, roll out the dough finely. Cut out circles or squares, put the filling in the middle and pinch the edges tightly together.
- Pour 6.3 pt water into a pan, salt it. When the water boils, put in the vareniki by 2-4 ones. After they have floated up, boil them for about 10 minutes, then take them out and serve with sour cream.
