Delicious strawberry carries compounds that are highly beneficial for the blood. A group of volunteers ate a pound of strawberries every day for two weeks to provide proof that the tasty fruit boosts the antioxidant properties of the blood.
The results of the research showed that the regular intake of strawberry increases the antioxidant capacity of plasma in the blood as well as the resistance of the red blood cells to oxidative stress. Strawberry contains phenolic compounds in large quantities, such as flavonoids that possess antioxidant properties.
Scientists from Polytechnic University of Marche in Italy and University of Granada in Spain demonstrated this effect in natural conditions and published the results in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.
