Champagne for Moslems
Treviso-based winemakers Iris Vigneti started producing sparkling non-alcoholic wine Isabel Ice. It is made from prosecco, the Glera grapes, in strict accordance with the Islamic principles laid down in the Koran, that is, from pure grape juice that hasn’t been fermented.
The wine has been created for 3 years and it is internationally patented. 500.000 bottles of this champagne are to be imported; more than half of it goes to Turkey, the rest to the UAE, including Dubai and Qatar. For now the demand exceeds the output. The Philippines also voiced their desire to import non-alcoholic champagne.
It is expected that the law ruling that drivers be sober will bring about a growing demand on the home market as well.
