A Picnic on the Carriageway

German Autobahns are a veritable Promised Land for lovers of driving at full speed. But not past weekend. Almost 3 million people took part at an enormous carriageway picnic that broke all world records.

The highway between Duisburg and Dortmund was given over to the celebration for Germany’s Ruhr Region, complete with the local cuisine, music and dancing. It was the world’s largest picnic with 20 thousand tables that stretched over a 60-km area.
