The Least Healthy Breakfast
The most common type of breakfast is a hamburgeror a sandwich with processed cheese and sausage. A recent study revealed that such a breakfast is harmful for the heart and vessels.
Scientists proved that a combination of trans-fats and saturated fats for breakfast is the worst meal possible. It is conducive to development of atherosclerosis, adhesion of cholesterol and formation of plaques on artery walls. Assembling for years, plaques cause heart attacks and cerebral crises.
Research was made on student volunteers at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, the University of Calgary. They comprised two stages. One morning the students came to the laboratory without eating their breakfast, the following morning they came after a breakfast of two sandwichs that had 900 calories and 50 grams of fat.
Scientists measured the students’ VTI (velocity time integral) that shows the capability of the blood vessels to transfer enough blood to supply tissues with oxygen at a given time period.
All the volunteers showed normal VTI indices when their stomachs were empty, but the indices dropped by 15-20 % after a breakfast of hamburgers.
Leader of the research team Dr. Anderson said that eating habits are a basic factor related o cardiovascular diseases.
