How nice it would be if we could down a cup of green tea and thus cure cancer! There have been studies showing that the catechins in green tea affect the growth of cancer cells.
But so far it is only a good preventive measure. And what if an individual has already contracted the disease? The problem is that catechins when traveling through the whole body reach the tumor in a concentration which is too low for an effective impact.
Scottish scientists were the first to prove that Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), the most powerful antioxidants of catechins, can make the tumor dwindle in size. They found a way to get him straight to the tumor in a high concentration without affecting healthy cells in laboratory. A month of extract treatment showed that 40% of tumors got dissolved while 30% grew less in size.
Having achieved such promising results in laboratory, the scientists set about working out a new and effective cancer treatment which will be tested on people.
